Jefferson City, Mo., premieres new fire station
Fire Station #3 in Jefferson City, Mo., opened for service last year, replacing an old station that was constructed almost half a century ago.
The new station boasts three drive-through apparatus bays and a fourth bay for a station vehicle. The facility’s footprint covers a total of 14,000 square feet, and its location on a major highway helps crews respond to calls faster.
In addition to increased functionality, the facility contains many amenities for firefighters. There is an indoor workout room equipped with free weights and aerobic exercise machines, a training room, an office and a kitchen with enough free space to accommodate all employees. Additionally, this is the first station in the city to be female-friendly, with private dormitories and bathrooms for opposite sexes.
The total cost of the station was $2.2 million.
