Crestline project in Spokane, Wash.
Spokane knew it needed to replace a 36-inch water main on South Hill, one of four aging trunk mains in town. The city considered numerous elements to select the best site for the project and selected Crestline, a street in poor condition. Working closely with county partners, the department crafted an inter-local agreement to take the project across city limits. A complete-street approach to tackling the challenges on Crestline provided the highest benefit to those who use the roadway. The project cost over $4 million, and the community now reaps multiple above-ground benefits from the new water main.
