Commemorative soccer match
To commemorate the event’s 100th anniversary, a re-enactment of the Christmas Truce soccer match was held on Dec. 13 at Emory Woodruff PE Center Field in Atlanta, Ga. The soccer match was reminiscent of the day when World War I soldiers entered No Man’s Land to exchange gifts, bury the fallen and play a friendly game of soccer. The event was part of Football Remembers Week, a partnership between the Premier League, the Football Association and the British Council to remember what took place in Flanders on Christmas Day, 1914. British diplomatic posts in nearly 30 countries participated in similar activities.
