The Delta Diablo Sanitation District, in partnership with Stanford University, piloted a new treatment technology that removes and recovers energy from nitrogen in wastewater. The process converts wastewater nitrogen to nitrous oxide gas, which is then used to increase the output of biogas-fed engines at wastewater treatment facilities.
