Created in 2011, the Adopt-A-Spot program is a way for community groups and individual residents to help make Tulsa ?America?s most beautiful city? ? a recognition the city received in the 1950s. Interested citizens pick a right-of-way, median or city park to foster and beautify through a 1-, 3- or 5-year commitment. After a foster proposal is approved, the city provides trash bags, reflective vests and gloves. A sign is installed at the site to recognize the group or individual responsible for the revitalization, and an official certificate of appreciation is awarded. Since the implementation of the program, city officials have found residents take satisfaction and pride in their city and spot.
