A watchful eye
Virginia’s Newport News Police Department (NNPD) dispatches for police, fire and EMS and receives more than 700,000 calls annually. To keep better watch over the crime-ridden areas, the department installed video cameras; however, dispatchers had to leave their workstations to monitor the video feeds and were not able to utilize the information.
Intergraph’s Video Responder solved this problem. The system links video surveillance feeds to I/CAD (computer aided dispatch), providing dispatchers with the high-quality video feeds at their workstations. Personnel can now monitor live video feeds and enter information directly into CAD, aiding video surveillance and virtual patrols. The integrated video feeds enable more accurate responses, quicker calls for service and streamlined processes. First responders can identify false alarms ahead of time, saving resources. In a multi-agency or multi-jurisdictional event, the video data can be populated in CAD and shared with other agencies as needed.
