A three-member arbitration panel is taking a recess until the fall without having settled the conflict between New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority and transit workers’ union. The authority and the union are at odds over the size of proposed wage increases, how much union members should pay toward their health insurance premiums and how long workers have to wait before collecting their pensions, according to The New York Times. The state-appointed arbitration panel began its hearings on Aug. 4 and announced on Thursday that it would take a recess, during which time the authority and the union have been instructed to discuss solutions to the issues.
