Boone County, Ky., has purchased 134 laptop computers for the sheriff’s department and for police in Walton and Florence. The $3.5 million for the laptops came from monthly 911 taxes on telephone bills in the county.
Using the computers, officers can check a driver’s registration, write arrest or incident reports and electronically send them to a central location. The equipment and procedure is creating an automated paperless records system for the county’s law enforcement officials.
