Los Angeles city councilman wants new investigation of police department
A Los Angeles city councilman, who is also the city’s former police chief, is calling for new investigations of two officer-involved incidents. In one case, a police patrol car hit two teen-age boys, killing one, and in the other a man suffered a fractured elbow at an antiwar demonstration that, according to witnesses, resulted from an officer hitting the man while he was walking away from a police line, according to the Los Angeles Times. Councilman Bernard Parks and other council members are concerned because in both cases, and in several others, the city has had to pay compensation to the victims even though police department reviews found no wrongdoing on the part of the officers.
