A new book aims to help jail operators reduce the risks they may encounter. The book, “Managing Risk in Jails,” covers issues and strategies, developing a risk management program and organizational investment for controlling risk.
The Fairfax, Va.-based Public Entity Risk Institute, the Department of Justice and the Washington-based National Institute of Corrections (NIC) produced the 91-page book. It is written for jail administrators and managers, supervisors, line staff, jail inspectors and executive authorities. “The process outlined in this manual can be expanded based on the organization’s size and complexity,” NIC Director Morris Thigpen wrote in the book’s forward. The book is available at www.nicic.org/library/022666.
