Vermont town wants to join New Hampshire
Killington, Vt., a popular destination for snow skiers, wants a new home. According to The Associated Press (AP), town officials “want to secede from Vermont and join neighboring New Hampshire in a dispute over taxes.” Officials are upset with the amount of state aid the town receives when compared with the amount of sales, room and meal taxes it sends to Vermont, the AP reports. The town also is frustrated with a state property tax that is used to fund schools. “It kind of reminds us of Colonial days,” Town Manager David Lewis told the AP. “The Colonies were being faced with the Stamp Act, the Tea Act, the Sugar Act. England wasn’t giving them any rights. They were treating the Colonies as just a revenue source.” For more information, visit
