“Green” Roof Offers Natural Choice for Energy Savings
With GreenGrid, modular components and pre-planted vegetation insulate roofs to stay cool, all summer long. Can reduce heat loads from a building’s roof by 50%. Also reduce stormwater runoff. Recycled polyethylene modules can be placed directly on a facility’s roofing membrane or other surfaces. Modules come in various sizes (standard model is 2 by 4 ft.) and a choice of 3 depths: Ultra Extensive modules, 212 ins. deep, support sedum species of perennial plants (with flowers of various colors); Extensive modules, 4 ins. deep, nurture wildflowers, sedum, and shallow rooting grass; and Intensive modules, 8 ins. deep, support wide variety of ornamental perennials and shrubs. Modules arrive at installation site with pre-planted vegetation, which can be selected to meet specific geographic demands (including drought conditions). Modular design accommodate on-site preferences and changing needs. Companion growing media offers a mixture of organic and inorganic material. System also features Ecoballast, an aggregate-filled roof ballast that offers pre-determined water retention. Options range from drip irrigation (which ensures even watering of plants) to various edge treatments or recycled-rubber pavers. In addition, walkways, water ponds, outdoor furniture, and planter boxes can be incorporated into system. GreenGrid Roof System, a Div. of Weston Solutions, Inc., Chicago, IL
