Hydrogen-powered shuttle bus provides ticket to clean air
Model H2ICE E-450 bus combines E-450 chassis cab with a shuttle-bus body and 6.8-liter Triton V-10 engine (modified to run on hydrogen, instead of gasoline). Seats up to 12 passengers, including driver, plus has room for luggage. Offers travel range up to 150 miles, depending on conditions and vehicle load. Hydrogen tank holds the equivalent of 26 gals. of fuel, at 5,000 lbs. per sq. in. Reduces emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) by 99.7%, compared to traditional gasoline engines. Near-zero emission level meets stringent environmental standards. Designed with the benefits of hydrogen fuel cells, at a fraction of the cost. Manufacturer is currently producing a demonstration fleet of 30 Focus Fuel Cell Vehicles, as well as working with other firms to build network of hydrogen fueling stations for vehicles. In addition, hydrogen-powered vehicles for airport grounds and other off-street applications are planned. Earth-friendly line also includes Escape Hybrid, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that runs on gasoline and electric power.
