The election results are in
Tuesday’s elections led to big changes in Congress, but there were numerous state and local votes, too. The Washington-based National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and the Washington-based U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) were following the results, and their ramifications, online Wednesday morning.
NCSL dedicated part of its website to the state elections. Republicans made huge gains in state legislative races and are at their highest point since 1928, according to the site, which includes an interactive map of results.
There were many mayoral elections Tuesday, and USCM was tracking 232 of them on Wednesday. Among the upsets was the loss by Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty to City Councilman, now Mayor-elect Vincent Gray. USCM also was tracking races in which mayors ran for governor of their respective states, including the successful bids by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper; Knoxville, Tenn., Mayor Bill Haslam; and former Warwick, R.I., Mayor Lincoln Chafee.
