In early February, former New York City counterterrorism detective Anthony Chiofalo lost his bid in the state’s appeals court for reinstatement to the force, according to the Associated Press. Chiofalo had been fired in 2007 after a random drug test found marijuana in his system, though Chiofalo said he had unintentionally ingested the drug in spiked meatballs prepared by his wife. Catherine Chiofalo also testified that she was hoping the failed test would make her husband leave police work. New York Police Department lawyer Edward Hart says there was more marijuana in Chiofalo’s system than could be explained by eating dope-ridden meatballs.
