Officials in the frontier town of Truth or Consequences, N.M., consider themselves to be on the cusp of becoming the gateway to the final frontier. They are hoping that the construction of the privately owned Spaceport America will be the key to future prosperity in the town of between 7,000 to 10,000 people that is named after a 1950s television show, according to The New York Times. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has committed $100 million toward a $250 million partnership with one of the spaceport’s primary customers, Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, and three counties surrounding the spaceport are considering a tax increase to help fund the venture.
