Omaha, Neb.-based HDR, an architectural, engineering and consulting firm, has acquired St. Paul, Minn.-based Jordan Architects, a planning and architectural company. The company also has acquired Roseville, Calif.-based Brown, Vence and Associates, an engineering and management consulting company specializing in solid waste management planning and energy management consulting.
Dulles, Va.-based ORBIMAGE Holdings has acquired Thornton, Colo.-based Space Imaging. The combined companies will be known as GeoEye, a commercial satellite imagery company, and will be based in Dulles.
Murrysville, Pa.-based R.D. Whitling & Associates has merged with Brookfield, Wis.-based R.A. Smith & Associates and its National Survey & Engineering division to provide land surveying serv-ices throughout western Pennsylvania.
Red Wing, Minn.-based DBI-SALA & Protecta has acquired Canadian-based Unique Concepts, an international fall protection and confined space rescue equipment manufacturing company.
Exton, Pa.-based Bentley Systems has acquired Carlsbad, Calif.-based RAM International, an engineering software company.

Fairfax County, Va., has extended its license with Rochester, N.Y.-based Pictometry International for oblique aerial imaging and software. Indianapolis and Marion County, Ind., have contracted with the company to provide new aerial imagery.
Campbell County, Wyo.; Casa Grande, Ariz.; and Castle Rock, Colo., have contracted with Dubuque, Iowa-based CarteGraph to provide ArcGIS-based and stand-alone maintenance management systems.
Gwinnett County, Ga., has contracted with Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Sanborn, a photogrammetric mapping and GIS company, to provide base map updates and digital orthophotography for more than 430 square miles.
The Mecklenburg County, N.C., Sheriff’s Office has contracted with Castle Hayne, N.C.-based VisionAIR, a public safety and criminal justice software company, to provide a law enforcement records management system.
The Los Angeles Region Imagery Acquisition Consortium has contracted with Sterling, Va.-based VARGIS, a geospatial consulting and professional services company, to provide aerial imagery data and photogrammetric services for Los Angeles County.

The Delaware, Ohio, Planning and Community Development Department has received the “Plan of the Year” award from the Central Ohio division of the Ohio Planning Conference for improvements to the city’s main roadways, including building and parking setbacks, and signage and landscaping.
Broomfield, Colo.-based MWH has received an Engineering Excellence award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts for its Water Pollution Control Plant Aeration Retrofit in Rockport, Mass.
Fairfax County, Va., has received two Gold Awards from locally based MarCom for its emergency preparedness campaign and the Fairfax County Communication Strategy.
The Indianapolis Department of Waterworks and Veolia Water Indianapolis have received the Outstanding Achievement in Public-Private Partnerships Award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors for improvements in the city’s drinking water system.
