Beginning December 1, FEMA will stop paying hotel bills for evacuees that lost their homes in hurricanes Katrina and Rita, which has so far cost the agency $274 million. According to an Associated Press story on CNN.com, the 9,830 households in hotels in Louisiana and 2,508 in Mississippi will be exempted until January 7 because of housing shortages in those states.
