After Tuesday’s mayoral election in San Diego, Donna Frye, an environmental activist, received 43 percent of the votes, while Jerry Sanders, a former police chief, came in second with 27 percent. According to the Los Angeles Times, the two will face off in a November 8 runoff. In the meantime, Councilwoman Toni Atkins has been appointed to serve as acting mayor. Los Angeles Times
