EXTRA, EXTRA/Opening up the lines of communication
Local and state governments that want to improve public safety communications interoperability now have a new resource to direct their activities. The Department of Homeland Security’s SAFECOM Program and the Office for Interoperability and Compatibility (OIC) have published a guide to help governments develop plans for enhancing communications. The Statewide Communications Interoperability Planning (SCIP) Methodology is based on OIC/SAFECOM’s work with the Commonwealth of Virginia to create a statewide communications plan last year. The SCIP Methodology includes 10 planning phases, such as establishing key relationships and funding, and identifying roles and responsibilities for the project team. The 154-page guide is available online in PDF format at www.safecomprogram.gov.
