Delaware and Michigan lead public safety communications push
The Public Safety Wireless Network (PSWN) Program, sponsored by multiple agencies of the federal government, has released a report card showing the nation’s progress in implementing interoperable wireless communications systems. The information gathered by PSWN is intended to aid the public safety community and assist all levels of government in improving interoperability.
The states’ interoperability status was assessed in six areas:
- shared systems development
- coordination and partnerships
- funding
- spectrum
- standards and technology
- security.
PSWN has determined that Delaware and Michigan have mature programs, meaning they have established interoperability and are looking for ways to expand their systems. Final grades for other states are “established,” “developing” and “new.”
