Public works crews charged with rehabilitating cracked roads have a new technical resource for designing their projects. “Rubblization: Design and Construction Guidelines on Rubblizing and Overlaying Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Pavements with Hot-Mix Asphalt” describes how PCC pavement can be fractured to provide a base for an asphalt surface. The 32-page publication from the Lanham, Md.-based National Asphalt Pavement Association covers how to evaluate existing pavement, design a hot-mix asphalt overlay, prepare the pavement, deal with utilities and underground structures, and finally construct the surface.
