Philadelphia mayor unveils new ethics policy for city employees
A controversial provision barring certain outside employment for city employees and City Council members will be unveiled today by Philadelphia Mayor John Street. The provision is intended to bolster the city’s ethics code, and the mayor has promised that more will follow. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the mayor wants to clarify what constitutes a conflict of interest and prohibit city employees, as well as council members, from holding a job with a person or firm that does business with the city or is seeking work from the city, among other things. The changes Street proposes will likely face several roadblocks, including similar legislation that is already being pushed by a member of the Council. http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/local/9734776.htm
