As the execution of Oklahoma City Bomber Timothy McVeigh approached, city officials in Terre Haute, Ind., the site of the execution, fielded calls from entrepreneurs hoping to cash in on the event. “A lot of people have been calling asking if they can sell T-shirts and buttons,” Mayor Judith Anderson told Time magazine. “We’re just asking that it be in very good taste.”

It’s a corporate gang thing. In April, a 20-year-old man was arrested in Chicago for spray painting symbols of penguins, hearts and peace signs on sidewalks. According to Reuters, the graffiti was part of a marketing campaign for Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM to draw attention to its Linux computer operating system. The company, which says the graffiti was supposed to be done with chalk, faces $50 fines for each of the 100 images.

Shear the good news. A 25-year-old Seattle man carrying a pair of scissors and claiming to be Jesus attempted to rob a garbage truck at a 7-Eleven store in March. According to the Seattle-Post Intelligencer, the man couldn’t get the garbage truck into gear, so he carjacked a pickup truck and led officers on a short chase before he was arrested.
