Reception honors Crown Communities Award winners
American City &County recently held a reception for the winners of its Crown Communities Awards at the National League of Cities conference Dec. 11-13 in Nashville. The event, which was sponsored by Johnson Controls, was attended by dozens of current and former winners.
Since 1998, American City &County has been presenting Crown Communities Awards to cities and counties that exemplify the best that local governments have to offer. The seven 2003 Crown Communities Award winners – from Escondido, Calif., which solved its water supply woes with recycled wastewater, to Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, Ky., which gave new traffic navigation tools to residents – demonstrate exceptional creativity, tenacity and efficiency in delivering services to residents and in improving operations. The awards recognize the cities and counties who solved everyday problems in creative and, in some cases, unique ways, achieving outstanding short-term and long-term results for their communities.
The winners of this year’s awards include: Dubuque, Iowa; Escondido, Calif.; Golden, Colo.; Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, Ky.; Maize, Kan.; New Hanover County, N.C.; and Nueces County, Texas.
