Detection dogs
Kevin Kinker, owner of K-9 Intervention, and his dog, Anna, helped to add a new dynamic of school security to Mona Shores Public Schools last year in Muskegon, Mich. The pilot program uses dogs to detect drugs, alcohol and even guns without having to go through bags, lockers or cars. In a survey, 67 percent of students indicated they felt safer with the dogs patrolling their schools, and 95 percent said they liked having the dogs around.
