2011 GSA Expo offers inspiration, innovation and interaction in San Diego

Inspire, innovate and interact are the guidewords of the 2011 General Services Administration (GSA) Training Conference and Expo, which will be held May 10-12 in San Diego at the San Diego Convention Center.

This video lets prospective attendees capture some of the excitement of the 2010 GSA Expo.

The conference will provide a variety of training to enhance attendees’ job performance and enrich their personal knowledge as acquisition professionals and program managers for all levels of government and the military. Even state and local procurement officers will find value at GSA Expo, says Steven Kempf, commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service. “Providing state and local governments with access to the federal government’s buying power is a win for everyone,” Kempf says. “Having state and local customers at Expo offers a unique opportunity to learn from one another.”

INSPIRE: Keynote speaker, Apple Computer, Inc., co-founder Steve Wozniak, will address the opening general session, describing the moments of inspiration that led to the Apple revolution, and the creative and technological vision that continues to affect the marketplace. Wozniak’s career at Apple has spanned the pioneering days in the 1970s in the infant computer industry, to his groundbreaking designs for Apples I-II, and his contributions on Macintosh.

INNOVATE: The exhibits from 700 vendors will offer innovations from suppliers, showcasing their latest products, services, technologies and systems. An IT Pavilion on the exhibit floor will showcase solutions from IT and telecommunications providers on GSA contract.

Attendees can develop skills for innovating on the job through 200 Continuous Learning Point (CLP) certified training sessions. The sessions will expand attendees’ acquisition knowledge and program management skills through a comprehensive, results-oriented curriculum.

INTERACT: Attendees can exchange ideas and knowledge through networking, interactive tools and interpersonal instruction at the 2011 Expo. Attendees can meet with hundreds of peers from GSA and other federal and non-federal agencies. Complimentary conference rooms will be available at the Expo to enable attendees to convene their national and regional teams.

Plenty of Training Sessions

Training topics for 2011 include:

  • Professional Acquisition
  • Workforce Development
  • Green Solutions*
  • State and Local Customer Solutions
  • Product and Service Solutions
  • Technology Solutions
  • Travel, Transportation and Personal Property Solutions
  • Buildings Solutions
  • eTools
  • Business Support

*Speaking of Green Solutions, go to this video for green innovations presented at the 2010 GSA Expo.

Go to this matrix for a detailed look at training at the 2011 Expo. Here are a few of the scheduled training sessions:

Solutions for State and Local Customers through GSA’s Cooperative Purchasing Program

Experts show how GSA’s Cooperative Purchasing Program can help state and local procurement officials leverage their buying power and streamline acquisitions of information technology and emergency preparedness products.

State and Local Law Enforcement Purchasing Program — 1122 Program

Under the 1122 Program, states and local governments can purchase equipment suitable for counter-drug, homeland security, and emergency response activities through the Department of Defense contracting vehicles as well as specific GSA Schedules. Attendees will learn how they can use the contracting vehicles to meet the needs of state and local agencies.

The GSA Green Purchasing Plan — What Does It Mean to You?

The training session will increase awareness of environmental mandates that promote the purchase of environmental products and services: recycled content, Energy Star, EPEAT and biobased products.

How GSA’s Office of Motor Vehicle Management Can Help Agencies Green Their Fleets

The session will provide fleet managers with an overview of the Office of Motor Vehicle Management’s mission, initiatives and offerings that include green technologies, short-term rentals and related topics.

This article first appeared on Urgent Communication. What we don’t see is 5G connectivity enabling paramedics to communicate with hospital staff via video conference and coordinate care in […]
  • Shifting city demographics present an opportunity to build coalitions, address inequality
Minority-majority cities are driving American growth. New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, for example, combined for an estimated 16% of the nation’s total gross domestic product in 2021—future projections anticipate a continuation of this trend, and an opportunity to create coalitions to address injustices. Between 2015 and 2020, 22% of U.S. cities were majority-minority, […]
