Janesville Road renovation
Janesville Road is the main thoroughfare through downtown Muskego, Wis. Its reconstruction was an opportunity for the city not only to renovate a major roadway, but also to create a new identity. The city partnered with Waukesha County during that past decade in a Context Sensitive Design process that brought together decision makers, residents and businesses to plan a future for the roadway, determining appropriate access points, needs for recreation trails and bike lanes, burying of utilities, streetscaping and beautification. In all, the reconstruction of Janesville Road cost the city approximately $7 million, and the county $25 million.
