With Memorial Day weekend upcoming, Americans everywhere are gearing up for longer days, warmer nights and seasonal summer jobs to begin. A new ranking from WalletHub lists the top cities for summer work based on criteria like employment outlook, availability of summer jobs, median income for part-time workers, affordability, and downtown-friendlinesss.
“For some people, especially young adults, the warmer months are a time to gain extra spending money or work experience. Fortunately, it’s a great time to join the workforce,” a brief about the findings says. “There’s a labor shortage and many employers are desperate to hire, which gives applicants leverage to get better compensation.”
Analysts compared 182 U.S. cities for the ranking. South Burlington, Vt. had the highest labor-force participation rate for youth aged 16 to 24 years old, followed by Fargo, N.D., Missoula, Mt., Nashua, N.H., and Sioux Falls, N.D. Cities with the lowest participation for the same age group were Winston Salem, N.C., Laredo, Tx., New Orleans, La., Brownsville, Tx. and Irvine, Calif.
