Matthew Bauer, 29, who is procurement administrator in Mesa, Ariz., is a winner in the first 30 Under 30 Rising Supply Chain Stars recognition program. According to his nomination form, Bauer
·    helped move the county into electronic procurement.
·    initiated reverse auctions that have delivered significant savings. A reverse auction for bulk flour will save close to $1 million over the next three years. Another for group health benefits saved more than $7 million. Now the county does about a dozen reverse auctions each year, on everything from food to shoes for prison inmates.
·      has received awards for this reverse auction initiative, including a Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award.

Bauer is an active volunteer with NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement. He reaches out to the community to bring Millennials (age 18-32) and other young professionals into the supply chain field.

Steve Dahle nominated Bauer for the recognition program. Dahle is Strategic Procurement Officer in Maricopa County, Arizona. In nominating Bauer, Dahle states: “Through his innovative ideas and ability to drive change, Bauer has saved local government in excess of ten million dollars.” Dahle used adjectives like tech-savvy, enthusiastic and innovative to describe Bauer.

ThomasNet and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) jointly sponsor the recognition effort. ThomasNet is a product sourcing and supplier discovery platform. The program honors professionals age 30 or younger who have made contributions to their organizations, professional associations and the industry at large. The initiative aims to generate awareness among Millennials about the rewards of a supply chain career.

In the video, you can learn how to submit a 30 Under 30 Rising Supply Chain Stars recognition nomination.
