Webinar: How to manage consumer technology in government offices

Government agencies no longer have exclusive domain over the technologies employees use to manage their workloads and communicate with colleagues and the public. Employees and officials are bringing their own smartphones and computers into offices, and requesting access to software and other technology widely available to consumers. Although the technologies may have numerous benefits, their use creates security, access and reliability issues for government IT managers.

In a free webinar April 26, “Moving Beyond If, When, and Why: How to Support the Consumerization in Government IT,” Keith Garred, state and local government optimized desktop architect for Microsoft, will describe how government IT managers can manage consumer devices and technologies in the government workplace. Garred will show how IT managers can provide connectivity, personalized experiences, and an intelligent infrastructure, so employees can use their own devices, while retaining the control, manageability and security needed to protect networks and comply with regulations.

The webinar is part of a free virtual conference presented by American City & County and sponsored by Microsoft. The event —“Your Cloud. Your future. Your move. Game-changing decisions in government” — will be held on April 26 from 1 to 4 pm EST. The session is part of the two-day, virtual conference that includes a total of five education sessions. Attendees also can attend free training workshops on April 27 from 11 am to 5 pm EST that will explore other Microsoft tools designed to improve productivity and flexibility in government IT operations.
