A devil of a good time
D. Lippman, a photographer with the Newark, N.J., media office, took this photo of Diablos Cojuelos, a Dominican dancing group, performing at the city’s Eighth Annual Essex County Dominican Parade and Festival, held in September. Hundreds of residents of Dominican descent marched in the parade, including Grand Marshal Jose Morel, a community leader; Parade Godfather Joe Vera, a Dominican musical artist; and National Godfather Winston Reyes, a community activist and organizer. Ingrid Betancourt, coordinator of Multicultural Collections & Services for the Newark Public Library served as the International Godmother, and the International Godfather was Council Member-at-Large Luis Quintana, the first Latino to serve on the Newark Municipal Council.
