A mayor’s tweet idea
Some might say that Lancaster, Calif., Mayor R. Rex Parris likes tweeting, just not the kind you do over the Internet. No, Parris is apparently a big fan of actual tweeting, as in birdsong, and the top elected official in that Mojave Desert city wants to brighten the streets by broadcasting recorded bird songs, according to the Associated Press (AP).
Parris proposed the idea during his State of the City talk in January, saying he wants to play the bird chatter from loudspeakers on Lancaster Boulevard. The mayor says there’s science to show that listening to birdsong makes people happier.
Parris is known for his flamboyant ideas, according to AP. He got a law passed giving the city the right to castrate pit bulls, ordered city officials to learn the Mandarin language in a bid to woo Chinese business, and ruffled some feathers by saying he was growing Lancaster into a Christian community.
