Not exactly a pleasure boat
It’s a dirty job, but at least the crew of Salisbury, Mass.’s new sewage pump-out boat will have reason to chuckle when they board their vessel in the morning. As a result of a contest held by the town’s harbor commission, the ship has been christened the Down Winder, according to the Associated Press.
The vessel, paid for in part by a state environmental grant, travels from boat to boat to pump out onboard septic systems in the town’s harbor.
Salisbury Harbormaster Ray Pike says the harbor commission got hundreds of suggestions for the boat’s name — including Poo Bear, Pumpty Dumpty, Poop Sloop and Dung Dingy — but settled on Down Winder, which was suggested by local boater Richard Calderwood. Pike says the commission had a lot of chuckles selecting a name.
