State associations track implementation of Health Care Reform Act
The Washington-based National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and National Governors Association (NGA) have dedicated web pages to tracking implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The sites offer the latest news and tools for state officials to use to conform to the act.
Signed into law in March, the $960 billion PPACA aims to expand health insurance coverage to 32 million more Americans using a combination of Medicaid expansions, subsidies, tax credits and mandates. The NGA site, set up as part of that association's participation in the State Consortium on Health Care Reform Implementation, covers several topics, including Medicaid/CHIP, state-based health insurance exchanges, insurance regulations, delivery systems initiatives and guidance from the Department of Health and Human Services.
The NCSL site covers the same topics, and both sites provide information on PPACA-related grants. Visit the NGA and the NCSL sites.
