HP’s Proliant G6 servers can be coupled with Samsung’s optional 60- and 120-gigabyte solid-state drives (SSDs) to store data while reducing power consumption. Designed for environments that both require significant server memory and are subject to federal energy-level regulations, the SSD servers can work up to 40-50 times faster than a traditional hard drive, according to the manufacturer. Compared with 10- and 15-K rpm hard-disk drives, the single-level-cell SSDs (which use a SATA storage interface) cut down on power usage and needed physical space.
