SeaArk delivers patrol boat to the Port of New Orleans
Monticello, Ark.-based SeaArk Marine recently delivered the Capt. Kenneth H. Scarbrough, a 50-foot Dauntless Class patrol vessel, to the Port of New Orleans. The Harbor Police will operate the vessel for a variety of port security, maritime response and emergency rescue missions throughout the port’s waterway systems, and will support the U.S. Coast Guard in its various marine safety/security missions along the Lower Mississippi River.
The 50-foot Capt. Scarbrough’s hull is based on a design by New Bedford, Mass.-based C. Raymond Hunt & Assoc., and is constructed of all-welded, marine-grade aluminum. To facilitate its mission as a command and control vessel, it is equipped with Huntsville, Ala.-based Teledyne Solution’s Maritime Domain Awareness and Interoperable Communications System (MDACS), for interoperable communications between different communication systems. MDACS also can link communications from first responders using land-lines, cell phones, satellite phones, UHF radios, VHF marine radios and other radio systems used throughout the state regardless of frequency or whether they are digital or analog.
Additional outfitting includes a satellite phone, satellite TV system, Simrad VTS/AIS, Garmin Electronics suite, and thermal infrared. The lower cabin also includes crew quarters, a galley, a head, storage lockers, settee/situation awareness area and arms locker. Twin CAT C-18 engines provide the main propulsion, and each one is rated at 875 horsepower, with Twin Disc AQM-17 gears. A 20.0-kw generator and 30-amp shore power connection provide onboard electrical service. Fully operational, the boat achieves a maximum speed of 35 knots and is equipped with heating and air conditioning throughout the pilothouse and lower cabin for year-round operation.
