The state has expanded an existing law that made it a criminal offense to assault state road workers to include local government employees, as well. Offenders convicted of assault or battery against a road worker could face up to a year in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,000.
“[The new law] comes at a time when motorist impatience, aggressive driving and road rage appear to be on the rise,” said state Assemblymember Wilmer Carter.
