Cleaner water for New Jersey counties
The Haworth Water Treatment Plant, located in Haworth, N.J., celebrated the completion of its $100 million rehabilitation in July. The facility, which is owned and operated by United Water New Jersey, a subsidiary of Paris, France-based Suez Environnement, supplies water to 800,000 residents in Bergen and Hudson counties.
The rehabilitation replaced the existing ozone treatment system with newer technology, added a dissolved air flotation (DAF) pretreatment system to remove particles and algae from source water, and installed new chlorine contact tanks. Also, new treatment processes were added for the residuals generated from filter backwash and the DAF operation.
The project, which began in 2007, was designed to comply with drinking water quality and process waste discharge regulations, and upgrade aging components of the water treatment plant.
