Danger: Don’t text and walk
Texting teenager falls down open manhole.
Staten Island Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) workers said they only left an open manhole unattended for a second. But that was enough time for a 15-year-old girl, distracted by reading a text message on a friend’s cell phone, to fall through the hole into the sewer below, according to NBC New York. Alexa Longueria survived the drop with a few scrapes and bruises, but emerged a bit smelly. The DEP workers on the site of Longueria’s fall said they had left the open manhole briefly to get some cones. Longueria’s family plans to file a lawsuit.
