This time, it’s up to the average residents of Metropolis to save Lois Lane. The Illinois town of 6,000 residents has come up $70,000 short of the amount needed to cast a figure of Superman’s favorite damsel in distress to accompany the 15-foot-tall Man of Steel statue that stands in the center of town, according to CNN.com. In 2005, the city, which was declared the official home for Superman by DC Comics in 1972, began working on building the companion statue, but economic woes have cut those plans short. Still, the city plans to keep trying to raise the cash for the project. “If there’s any money out there, we’re going to find it,” Mayor Billy McDaniel told CNN.
