Blue Rhino offers to take used propane tanks out of landfills
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based propane tank manufacturer Blue Rhino is offering to collect propane tanks from landfills and recycling centers nationwide. Through its Rhino Recycle program, the company will pick up the tanks and refurbish or recycle them.
The program aims to reduce the safety hazards of storing the tanks. Recycle and waste disposal organizations do not always have appropriate space for storing discarded propane tanks, and they may spend up to $20 per tank to contract companies to pick them up and dispose of them. Rhino Recycle may require a small per tank fee in some cases, but in most cases the service is free, which can save an organization up to $720 per pick up.
Participants with a minimum of 36 tanks should call 1-888-753-7159 or e-mail [email protected] to schedule a pickup. Steel tanks that cannot be safely refurbished are recycled. View more information on the Rhino Recycle program.
