Oxo-biodegradable bags begin to oxidize or break down through exposure to oxygen, then flake and fragment into smaller pieces that more easily biodegrade. In addition to employing the environmentally friendly formula, the company has stopped using a cornstarch additive to manufacture the bags. The oxo-biodegradable bags are sporting a new color — opaque green — to remind users of the improvements made to the bags.
