Illinois lawmakers have taken steps to ensure that residents will not lose their air conditioning when summer temperatures hit high marks. In August, Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed a new law that prohibits power companies from shutting off service to delinquent customers when temperatures reach or exceed 95 degrees. The law also applies to gas companies and any other utility that provides the sole power source to air conditioners in any residence.
