Risk management group plans online symposium on firefighter safety
The Fairfax, Va.-based Public Entity Risk Institute (PERI) will present a two-week online symposium from Sept. 22 to Oct. 3 about the high rate of firefighter deaths and injuries. The free event, “Reducing Firefighter Deaths & Injuries: Changes in Concept, Policy, and Practice” will be held on the Web at http://www.riskinstitute.org/symposium.
Each day during the two-week forum, one or two industry experts will present papers that examine causes for the high rate of firefighter line-of-duty deaths and injuries in the U.S. and discuss strategies for improving safety. Presenters will include physicians, safety trainers, city managers, university researchers, and leading American fire chiefs and labor officials.
Programs are free and open to anyone with Internet access. Each morning, registered participants will receive an email with a link to the papers being presented that day. Participants will be able to contribute to an online discussion by posting comments, posing questions, and sharing strategies for improving firefighter safety.
