APWA names Top 10 Public Works Leaders of the Year
The Kansas City, Mo.-based American Public Works Association (APWA) has named the 2008 Top 10 Public Works Leaders of the Year. The winners come from across the United States and Canada, and all will be recognized at APWA’s International Congress and Exposition in New Orleans Aug. 17-20.
The winners are: Christine Andersen, Long Beach, Calif., airport director; Dwayne Kalynchuk, general manager of Environmental Services for the Capital Regional District in Victoria, British Columbia; Harry Weed, Rockville Centre, N.Y., public works superintendent; Judith Mueller, Charlottesville, Va., public works director; Leslie Henley, Clark County, Nev., public works director; Richard McKinley, Bellingham, Wash., public works director; Ronald Calkins, Ventura, Calif., public works director; Samuel Lamerato, Troy, Mich., fleet maintenance superintendent; Scott Elmer, Missouri City, Texas, public works director and city engineer; and Steven Parkinson, Portsmouth, N.H., public works director. “[The winners] are selected for their professionalism, expertise and personal dedication to improving the quality of life in their communities,” said APWA Executive Director Peter King in a statement.
