The South is rising again, at least in terms of population. Eight of the nation’s 10 fastest growing metro areas between July 2006 and July 2007 are located in the Southeast, with Palm Coast, Fla., topping the list with a 7.2 percent growth rate, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area saw the highest numeric increase, adding 162,250 people during the year. New Orleans and other hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast metro areas that experienced a drastic decline in population from 2005 to 2006 rebounded between 2006 and 2007, with New Orleans seeing the eighth-fastest growth rate of 4 percent.
