Massachusetts town wins water taste test
Southampton, Mass., has the best tasting water in the country, according to the Duncan, Okla.-based National Rural Water Association (NRWA). Southampton was selected from among five finalists as the winner of NRWA’s 9th Annual Great American Water Taste Test.
Three judges gauged the entrants’ water samples for clarity, bouquet and taste during NRWA’s annual rally in Washington on April 22. The other finalists were North Kingstown, R.I.; Lewes, Del.; Lorain County, Ohio; and Avilla, Ind. “The judges said the top three were just so close in quality. They said they were separated by just decimal points,” NRWA spokesperson Michael Harris told The Republican newspaper in Springfield, Mass.
NRWA represents 26,242 rural and small water utilities. It sponsors the taste test and rally on Capital Hill every year to give its members an opportunity to discuss water and wastewater issues with their Congressional representatives. More information on the contest and rally is available at www.nrwa.org/.
