The New Mexico legislature has set a $75 cap on tickets issued by Albuquerque from its automated stoplight and speed enforcement camera system. Previously, the city charged $150 to $350 per ticket, says Albuquerque Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Perlman.
The cap will make maintaining the city’s system of cameras at 20 intersections more difficult, Perlman says. “They’ve taken a system that was paid for by violators and turned it into a system paid for by taxpayers,” he says.
