Troubled by his city’s recent listing as the fast food capital of the country in “Fortune” magazine, Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett is launching a weight loss initiative for all residents. Cornett’s goal is for the city to lose a collective 1 million pounds.
On Dec. 31 the city will launch a Web site, www.thiscityisgoingonadiet.com, to track residents’ weight loss and promote healthy lifestyles. Also, the city will build 47 new gymnasiums at grade schools and will add 300 miles of new sidewalks to encourage more walking.
